Cyrus Jirongo estate faces Sh3.98 billion in debt
Court documents filed in a succession case for former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo reveal a significant financial deficit. Following his death in a road accident on December 13, 2025, his three widows petitioned the High Court in Nairobi for authority to administer his estate. The filings disclose disclosed assets of approximately Sh1 billion against total liabilities amounting to Sh3.98 billion.
The debt includes 39 separate claims, such as unpaid staff salaries, bank debts, and large personal and business obligations. Notable creditors include Sundip, which is owed Sh800 million, and various individuals and entities such as Bethlehem Bisil land, GTM, and Stanbic Bank.
The case has also highlighted complexities regarding inheritance in polygamous families. The estate includes 32 beneficiaries, comprising three widows and 29 children. Under the Law of Succession Act, the estate is to be shared among the different households, and the law provides protections for children born out of wedlock, as well as adopted children and dependents.
