Czech agriculture faces significant crop yield declines

Czech agricultural production is facing a significant decline due to extreme weather conditions, including drought, heatwaves, hail, and spring frosts. According to the Agricultural Chamber of the Czech Republic, the production of basic cereals is expected to drop by 17.5% to 6.3 million tons compared to last year. Rapeseed production is projected to see an even sharper decrease of 24%, falling to 773,000 tons.

These lower yields are expected to result in a revenue loss for farmers estimated between 8 and 9 billion Czech koruna (approximately 330 to 370 million euros). While the quality of the grain remains above average, the volume has been severely impacted. Farmers are also facing challenges from rising costs, restrictions on protective agents, and low market prices driven by cheap imports from countries that do not adhere to European standards.

Regional data from the Hradec Králové region mirrors these national trends, with local estimates showing an 18% decrease in basic cereals and a 20% drop in rapeseed compared to the previous year.
