Czech almond flakes recalled due to botulism risk

Health authorities in the Czech Republic and Slovakia have issued warnings regarding contaminated almond flakes (60g) produced by K-Servis Praha. The product, specifically batch L25833, was sold through the Makro retail network and has been linked to the presence of Clostridium bacteria capable of producing neurotoxins.

Consumption of the contaminated product poses a risk of botulism, a serious illness that affects the nervous system. Symptoms typically appear within 6 to 72 hours and include double or blurred vision, dry mouth, difficulty swallowing or speaking, and muscle weakness. In severe cases, respiratory problems may occur.

Hygienists in Prague have been investigating multiple locations to track the movement of the dangerous batch. In one instance, contaminated almonds were found in milk chocolate nougat sweets (batch LOT 2647277) sold in Prague 1. Authorities advise consumers to avoid eating the products and to either dispose of them or return them to the place of purchase.
