Czech banks post record first‑half profits as leading lenders see double‑digit gains
Six of the largest Czech banks reported a combined net profit of 48 billion CZK for the first half of 2026, a 5 % increase year‑on‑year. Česká spořitelna led the rise with an 11.7 % jump to 14.3 billion CZK, followed by ČSOB (+7 % to 10.2 billion CZK), Moneta Money Bank (+8.1 % to 3.3 billion CZK) and UniCredit Bank in the Czech Republic and Slovakia (+8.8 % to 6.3 billion CZK). Declines were recorded by Komerční banka (‑3.3 % to 8.5 billion CZK) and Raiffeisenbank (‑5 % to 5.41 billion CZK). Analysts attributed the overall growth to a stable macro‑economic environment, rising deposit volumes and strong demand for consumer, mortgage and investment products.
ČSOB also highlighted a 9 % increase in total loan volume to 1 113 billion CZK, a 44 % surge in new mortgage loans from building‑savings schemes, and a net profit of 10.2 billion CZK. The bank added that its client base grew by 71 thousand active customers.
In neighbouring Slovakia, VÚB banka posted a 9 % rise in net profit to €167.4 million, despite a slight dip in its core interest‑income stream. The mixed results underscore robust demand for credit and savings across the Czech and Slovak banking sectors.
