Czech and Slovak gardeners receive summer pruning tips and pumpkin cultivation advice

Gardeners in Slovakia and the Czech Republic are advised to perform a June pruning of certain perennials to stimulate new growth without weakening the plants. The technique, recommended for species such as Echinacea, Pakost, Alchemilka, Kocúrnik and Rebríček, involves cutting back faded stems just above new buds, using sharp scissors, and providing water and light compost to support regeneration.

For pumpkin growers, experts highlight the need for ample space, consistent deep watering at the roots, and enriched soil with compost. Proper training of vines with boards or straw reduces ground contact and prevents rot. Nutrient management, including occasional fertilisation during slow growth, helps ensure a plentiful autumn harvest.
