Czech and Slovak governments pursue joint procurement for state hospitals

The Czech Ministry of Health has launched a pilot project with seven state hospitals—including Motol, Homolka, Královské Vinohrady, Bulovka, Všeobecná, Brno and St. Anna—to test joint purchasing of services, equipment and materials. A memorandum was signed with no financial commitments, and the hospitals will gather data to identify areas where shared procurement could improve efficiency and generate savings.

In Slovakia, the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) is urging the government to adopt a unified, transparent public procurement system for the new network of state hospitals. KDH argues that coordinated buying could cut costs, harmonise hospital information systems and prevent wasteful spending, potentially saving tens or hundreds of millions of euros across facilities such as those in Banská Bystrica, Martin, Prešov and Bratislava.
