Czech and Slovak officials urge water‑saving pool practices this summer

The municipality of Doubravice in the Czech Republic asked residents to fill garden pools gradually and avoid peak‑hour periods (06:00‑09:00 and 18:00‑22:00) to keep water‑pressure stable. It warned that large, simultaneous draws can cause pressure fluctuations and temporary cloudiness, prohibited the use of fire‑hydrants for filling, and suggested ordering water by tanker if needed.

In Slovakia, experts advised homeowners to reduce pool‑filter run‑time to cut electricity consumption. By calculating the required filtration hours from pool volume and pump flow (e.g., a 500 W pump uses about 5 kWh over ten hours), users can limit operation to one or two full water turnovers per day and adjust for hotter days or heavy use. The guidance aims to lower both water and energy use during the summer months.
