Czech autumn traditions: Lantern parades and harvest festivals
Various traditional autumn celebrations are taking place in the Czech Republic. In Valašské Meziříčí, the Muzeum regionu Valašsko is organizing the ‘Uspávání broučků’ (Putting the Beetles to Sleep) event on Friday, October 16. The program includes outdoor games, a creative workshop, and a traditional lantern parade through the city starting at 18:30. A similar event will be held on October 30 at Lešná Castle.
Additionally, the Havelské posvícení festival is being held at Důl Řimbaba. This event celebrates historical harvest traditions with local specialties such as ‘Řimbabky’ pastries, fresh bread, and traditional cakes. The festival honors the historical ‘Imperial Posvícení’ tradition, which was standardized by Emperor Joseph II in 1786 to unify celebration dates across the country.
