Czech banks offer SMS and hardware alternatives to smartphone banking
Czech banks are offering various methods for customers to manage accounts without smartphones. While Partners Bank operates exclusively via a mobile app for security reasons, most other domestic institutions allow access via computer with SMS authentication.
Many banks, including Air Bank, Creditas, Fio banka, Komerční banka, and mBank, provide SMS confirmation free of charge. Some institutions, such as Česká spořitelna, ČSOB, and Moneta Money Bank, charge fees for SMS services but offer exemptions for seniors. UniCredit Bank is noted for its stricter requirements, planning to charge for SMS authentication starting in June 2026 and requiring a mobile app for online card payments.
For customers without any mobile device, PPF banka and Volksbank Raiffeisenbank offer hardware tokens that generate security codes for a one-time fee. Peněžní dům also provides a similar keypad device for a fee.
