Czech sports updates: Davis Cup nominations and US Open controversy

In tennis, Czech captain Tomáš Berdych has announced the initial nomination for the Davis Cup qualifying second round against the USA, to be held in Prague's O2 Arena on September 18–19. The lineup includes Jiří Lehečka, Jakub Menšík, Tomáš Macháč, Vít Kopřiva, and doubles specialist Patrik Rikl. Berdych noted the roster may change following the US Open.

Controversy has also emerged regarding the US Open mixed doubles tournament. World number one doubles player Kateřina Siniaková and partner Henry Patten were denied a direct entry into the main draw, forcing them to compete in the qualifying rounds. Critics argue the tournament's reliance on singles rankings over doubles expertise is unfair to specialists.

In basketball, the Czech national team faces challenges in the EuroBasket 2029 pre-qualifiers, as key players Tomáš Satoranský and NBA player Vít Krejčí will be absent. Meanwhile, the Slovakian national team is preparing for their own pre-qualification matches against Angola and Bulgaria in Bratislava.
