Czech beer culture: Bohumín festival and Zbytiny's low-price marketing

The town of Bohumín is celebrating its 18th annual beer festival at Hobbypark on August 15. The event will feature over eighty varieties of Czech beer, including fruit-flavored, sour, and non-alcoholic options. To mark the city's 770th anniversary, the local microbrewery Skřečoňský Žabák has produced a special jubilee lager brewed with two types of hops. The festival includes a musical lineup featuring artists such as Vilda Čok and Rock & Roll Band Marcela Woodmana, alongside family activities and beer-related competitions.

In Zbytiny, a local pub is gaining attention by offering Pilsner Urquell for 39 CZK. Mayor Josef Furiš describes this low price as a marketing strategy designed to attract tourists and cyclists back to local establishments following the impact of COVID-19 and anti-smoking laws. While the beer itself is sold at a low margin, the goal is to encourage patrons to purchase higher-margin items like food and coffee.
