Czech beer traditions spark summer events and nostalgic cold soup

In the 1980s Czech country houses served a cold beer soup made with light lager, sour cream, egg yolks, sugar, cinnamon and lemon zest, a quick, refreshing dish for days when temperatures reached 30 °C. The recipe, once common, is now being rediscovered as part of a broader revival of historic Czech cuisine.

At the same time, the Náchod Brewery hosted its annual “Den P” on a scorching summer afternoon, with temperatures climbing to 35 °C. Hundreds of visitors gathered in the brewery courtyard to enjoy free tastings of 21 beer varieties and non‑alcoholic drinks at eight stalls, live music, and guided tours of the brewing facilities, including a cooling cellar. Brewery director Petr Kaluža and staff ensured smooth service despite the heat, highlighting flagship beers such as Antonín 11 lagers and Fest Hořká 12.
