Teen Drowns in Brno Reservoir, Police Issue Water Safety Warning

A 17‑year‑old boy went swimming with a friend in a water reservoir near Brno on Friday and began to drown. Police spokesperson Petr Vala said rescue divers searched for more than two hours before finding the teenager dead. The incident prompted an extensive search operation involving police divers, a special underwater drone from the Central Bohemian region and an air‑rescue helicopter. Authorities warned the public ahead of a forecast‑record hot weekend to respect swimming bans, avoid alcohol and keep close supervision of children at water sites.

The tragedy underscores the risks at natural reservoirs, where depths can reach 20–30 metres and currents are unpredictable. Police continue to monitor similar sites and urge anyone with information to contact them.
