EU citizens prioritize agriculture as Slovakia manages gas reserves
A recent Eurobarometer survey reveals strong public support for agriculture within the European Union. Approximately 95% of EU citizens consider agriculture and rural areas vital to Europe's future, while 93% emphasize the necessity of ensuring stable food supplies. Furthermore, 70% of respondents view the Common Agricultural Policy as beneficial to all members, and 85% prioritize increasing agricultural competitiveness.
In Slovakia, the Ministry of Economy has addressed concerns regarding gas reserves ahead of the winter season. While opposition members raised alarms over low storage levels, the Ministry stated that Slovakia is the fifth best-prepared EU country regarding gas storage relative to consumption. Current storage levels stand at 53.73% capacity, containing 19.79 TWh of energy. The company SPP aims to reach 17.5 TWh by the first half of October.
Additionally, Slovakia has recorded 12 deaths directly attributed to excessive heat since the beginning of 2026, the highest number in a decade. However, the Statistical Office noted that overall mortality rates during the summer months have not shown a significant increase compared to historical averages.
