Czech Chamber of Deputies sees rise in young and female lawmakers

The Czech Chamber of Deputies has undergone significant demographic changes following recent elections. The lower house now features a higher number of women, who comprise one-third of the chamber, and a notable increase in younger representatives. Specifically, 12 lawmakers under the age of 30 have taken office, a fourfold increase compared to the 2021 elections.

Younger members from various political factions, including the coalition and opposition, have shared perspectives on the realities of parliamentary life. Discussions touched upon the complexity of legislative processes, the impact of political obstruction, and systemic issues such as national debt, the housing crisis, and lobbying. Representatives noted that the parliamentary environment often lacks the predictability or professionalism expected from the outside, frequently being driven by human factors rather than organized planning.
