Czech children rely on crowdfunding to manage severe medical conditions

Two children in the Czech Republic are facing severe health challenges and relying on crowdfunding to access necessary care.

Michálek, born prematurely at 29 weeks weighing less than one kilogram, suffers from brain damage caused by a post-birth infection. His condition includes cerebral palsy, spastic quadriplegia, severe epilepsy, and mental disabilities. He requires 24-hour care, oxygen support, and artificial nutrition via a PEG tube.

Four-year-old Patrik battles the rare ATRX syndrome, which causes profound mental disability, autism, and motor difficulties. His symptoms include muscle hypotonia, coordination issues, and epileptic activity. Patrik requires constant assistance for daily activities such as feeding and hygiene. His family has launched a fundraiser on Donio to fund specialized therapies, including physiotherapy, neurofeedback, and multisensory Snoezelen therapy.
