Czech cinema draws crowds with true‑story sports comedy and revisits censored 1980s film

A Czech sports comedy based on a true story about a Paralympic basketball team attracted more than 190,000 cinema-goers and generated over 35 million CZK in revenue. Directed by Slovak filmmaker Jonáš Karásek and scripted by Petr Kolečko, the film features Martin Hofmann as the eccentric coach Marek and includes actors such as Jakub Prachař and Martin Polišenský. After its theatrical success the movie moved to Netflix.

The same coverage also looks back at the 1980s Czech comedy "Já nejsem já," which was banned by censors for allegedly harming actress Jana Švandová’s public image. The film follows two men who exchange faces after a moonlit night, starring Petr Nárožný and Ondřej Havelka, with Jiří Lábus playing a plastic surgeon. Director Václav Vorlíček employed extensive post‑production dialogue work, and the soundtrack was composed by Karel Svoboda.
