Czech cities expand electric bus fleets through major tenders

Public transport operators in the Czech Republic are significantly expanding their electric bus fleets through major tenders.

Dopravní podnik Ostrava (DPO) has signed a contract with Solaris for 70 new Solaris Urbino 12 electric buses. The deal, valued at nearly 900 million Czech koruna (approximately 37 million euros), is the largest completed electric bus tender in the country. More than half of the costs will be covered by European subsidies. The order includes two versions with different battery capacities, offering ranges of 250 km and 350 km. Deliveries are scheduled for 2027–2028, which will increase DPO's electric bus share from 10% to 35%.

In Děčín, the local transport company is seeking an additional 21 electric buses from MAN to move toward a nearly fully electric municipal fleet. The project, estimated at nearly 250 million koruna, aims to utilize subsidies from the Modernization Fund. The procurement includes various lengths, such as 12-meter and 18-meter articulated models, with deliveries expected to conclude by late 2029.
