Czech Ministry of Health plans financial rewards for preventive medical screenings

The Czech Ministry of Health is planning a legislative amendment to motivate citizens to undergo regular preventive medical examinations through financial rewards. Minister of Health Adam Vojtěch stated that patients who complete recommended screenings could receive annual bonuses amounting to several thousand koruna, paid directly to their bank accounts. While medical professionals support the move to increase screening rates, economists have raised concerns regarding the potential financial burden on the healthcare system.

In conjunction with broader health initiatives, various preventive programs and free screening events are active across the country. The Blesk Ordinance project, supported by Všeobecná zdravotní pojišťovna (VZP), will travel to several Czech cities including Hradec Králové, Brno, Ostrava, and Prague to offer free health checks. Additionally, AGEL Hornické poliklinika in Ostrava is hosting a health day to provide free blood pressure, blood oxygen, and eye examinations.

Existing insurance benefits also allow seniors and patients with chronic conditions to claim reimbursements for various preventive activities. These include contributions for dental hygiene, vaccinations, and specialized care for diabetes patients, which can reach up to 6,000 CZK annually, provided the individual meets specific insurance criteria.
