Czech cities introduce new urban design and cycling infrastructure

In Plzeň, new prototype waste bins have been installed at Republic Square. Designed in collaboration with a design firm, these concrete bins feature gold-colored lids to match the local fountains. While the gold variant is intended for the square, darker lids will be used in park areas to better hide cigarette ash. Technical Deputy Mayor Pavel Bosák noted that the design aims to reflect local identity and encourage better public care for city property.

In Vsetín, a new cycling hub has been unveiled at the former coal warehouse site near the station. The space features a 12-meter-high red pillar topped with a glowing sphere, acting as a symbolic ‘map pin’ for the starting point of four major cycling routes: Bečva, Bevlava, Rokytenka, and Jasenice. The area includes amenities such as benches, bike stands, e-bike chargers, and information tables with QR codes for local attractions.
