Czech cities Jihlava and Krnov update parking systems

Czech cities Jihlava and Krnov are implementing updates to their municipal parking systems to improve accessibility and modernization.

In Jihlava, the city is introducing a 30-minute free parking period for blue and orange zones, which must be activated via a mobile app or parking machine. This replaces the previous 20-minute tolerance period. The change aims to assist visitors making short errands and seniors visiting family. Drivers can use the free time once every 24 hours per specific parking color, and the permit is not tied to a single spot within the same zone.

Krnov has replaced its aging parking terminals with modern touch-screen machines that accept both card and cash payments. The city is also expanding the first 30 minutes of free parking to all payment methods, whereas it was previously limited to mobile app users. The new system operates based on vehicle registration numbers, allowing guards to verify permits online and eliminating the need for physical paper tickets on windshields.
