Czech cities launch major affordable housing projects
Major housing development projects have been launched in the Czech Republic to increase the availability of affordable and cooperative living options.
In Brno, the groundbreaking ceremony for the Kamenný vrch project in the Nový Lískovec district has commenced. This large-scale development, managed by Strabag + Syner, involves the construction of 24 buildings containing 353 apartments. Of these, 280 are designated for cooperative housing, offered at a price of 107,839 CZK per square meter to avoid developer margins. The project is valued at over two billion CZK, with the first residents expected to move in by 2030.
In Lovosice, a project titled ‘Affordable Housing in Lovosice,’ supported by the European Union, is set to begin. The initiative involves the reconstruction of an existing hostel on Nádražní Street into 20 residential units. Thirteen of these units will serve as long-term social housing for up to 35 people, while the remainder will provide accessible ‘starter housing.’ The project includes accessibility upgrades, such as a new elevator, to support social inclusion.
