Czech Constitutional Court Upholds Higher Fee for Lawyer Lucie Hrdá

The Constitutional Court in Brno announced its ruling on the complaint filed by lawyer Lucie Hrdá, who acted as counsel for especially vulnerable victims in a sexual‑abuse case. The court rejected the lower compensation previously granted and set the tariff value based on the 150,000 CZK voluntarily paid by the offender to the victim, resulting in a fee of 54,842 CZK for Hrdá.

Hrdá argued that reduced fees discourage lawyers from representing victims and contribute to secondary victimisation. The decision highlights the courts’ approach to calculating remuneration for counsel in criminal proceedings where no statutory compensation was awarded in the verdict.
