Czech consumers increasingly rely on discounts and sales

Research indicates that Czech consumers are increasingly reliant on discounts, with over half of the population waiting for sales before making most planned purchases. An Ipsos survey for dm drogerie markt found that 41% of respondents associate dm with long-term advantageous pricing, while 37% of shoppers are willing to change retailers specifically to find better deals on expensive or bulk items like detergents and diapers.

In response to this trend, major retailers are testing different pricing strategies. Lidl has expanded its list of products with stable, non-promotional prices to hundreds of items, including shelf-stable foods and beverages, in an attempt to reduce consumer reliance on weekly flyers. Other major players like Tesco, Albert, and Globus are also utilizing marketing slogans focused on low, consistent pricing.

Experts note that while consumers may save money on individual items through sales, the habit of hunting for discounts leads to increased time spent planning and monitoring markets. Marketing specialists suggest that convincing consumers to trust stable pricing over promotional cycles is a long-term challenge that can take years to achieve.
