Czech court issues final verdict in Baník Ostrava fan robbery case

A Czech court has issued a final verdict in a long-running robbery case involving radical Baník Ostrava football fans. The case stems from an October 2018 incident in Březová, where a group of individuals intercepted a car carrying SFC Opava supporters, stealing club symbols and damaging the vehicle.

While sixteen other defendants reached plea agreements or admitted guilt and have already served their sentences, Martin Š. maintained his innocence throughout the proceedings. He had previously argued that he was at a fitness center in Ostrava during the crime, an alibi supported by former player Martin Lukeš.

Following a series of legal challenges, including a ruling by the High Court in Olomouc which initially noted a lack of direct evidence, the Regional Court in Ostrava reached a final decision regarding his guilt and sentencing.
