Czech crime series highlight social reality and true events

Czech television and streaming platforms are highlighting crime series rooted in social reality. Czech Television is re-airing the thirteen-part crime series ‘Místo zločinu Ostrava’ (Crime Scene Ostrava). The series, produced in 2020, draws inspiration from real criminal cases handled by Ostrava police, featuring gritty settings such as mining shafts and local housing colonies.

Simultaneously, the streaming service Oneplay is introducing ‘Oddíl B’, a ten-part series from the creators of ‘Most!’. The show follows a young man named David Broulík who enters the prison system under false pretenses. The series aims to provide a mix of social commentary and dark humor, depicting the daily routines, lack of privacy, and interpersonal conflicts within a correctional facility based on authentic experiences behind bars.
