Czech cultural figures Bořivoj Pohl and Zdeněk Svěrák receive lifetime achievement honors

In recent cultural recognitions in the Czech Republic, Bořivoj Pohl and Zdeněk Svěrák have been honored for their respective contributions to society and the arts.

Bořivoj Pohl, a 75-year-old resident of Liberec, was awarded the Křesadlo prize in 2025. His lifelong commitment to community service includes helping build the Jizera Magistrála, maintaining tourist signage, organizing hiking events, and donating blood. A musician and gardener, Pohl views his volunteerism as a way to pass on the help he has received throughout his life.

In Poděbrady, actor and screenwriter Zdeněk Svěrák received the Soundtrack Festival lifetime achievement award. During the ceremony, Svěrák humorously remarked that he did not feel he deserved the award, noting his deep love for music despite not being a professional musician. The event included a discussion with his son, Jan, and a screening of the film ‘Tmavomodrý svět’ (Dark Blue World).
