Czech cultural landmarks undergo major renovations and reopenings

Significant cultural landmarks in the Czech Republic are undergoing major reopenings following extensive renovations.

In Jičín, the Václav Čtvrtek Library is set to officially open to the public on September 29 after a three-year reconstruction. The project, designed by a1Architects, saw costs rise from 70 million to 82 million CZK due to inflation and unforeseen structural repairs in the basement and eastern wing. The nearly 100-year-old building has been modernized to be barrier-free, featuring an elevator, a new gallery, a reading room, and a lecture hall. The city received a 60 million CZK European subsidy for the project.

In Prague, the Průmyslový palác at the Výstaviště complex is reopening after 18 years. The landmark has been undergoing a 4.5-year reconstruction following a major fire in 2008. To celebrate the reopening, the Výstaviště has organized a diverse program including guided tours, art installations by Barbora Šlapetová and Lukáš Rittstein, and outdoor exhibitions showcasing the craftsmanship involved in the restoration.
