Czech customs seize illegal e-cigarettes and counterfeit goods

Czech customs officials have conducted major seizures of illegal and counterfeit goods at markets in Prague and Hatě.

In Prague, authorities discovered over 40,000 unmarked e-cigarette refills and more than 1,500 electronic cigarette devices. The seizure, which included over 1.2 million milliliters of liquid, is estimated to represent an excise tax loss exceeding nine million koruna. During the inspection of vehicles and containers, officials also found bags of dried plant matter containing cannabinoids, though THC levels were within legal limits.

In Hatě, near Znojmo, customs officers targeted a market frequented by many shoppers from Austria. Officials seized 1,786 items, including footwear, handbags, and backpacks, suspected of infringing on intellectual property rights of major brands such as Adidas, Nike, Louis Vuitton, and Gucci. If confirmed as counterfeits, the original value of the goods would reach approximately 24 million koruna, and offenders could face fines of up to 10 million koruna.
