Czech defence ministry looks to replace Jiří Šedivý with Jakub Landovský

The Czech Ministry of Defence has announced a selection process to fill the post of senior director of the Defence Policy and Strategy Section, which will become vacant when Jiří Šedivý leaves the position at the end of May. Applicants may submit their candidacy until 27 May.

Government commissioner for NATO obligations Jakub Landovský has confirmed his intention to apply. Landovský previously served as deputy minister of defence (2015‑2019) and was appointed as the government’s NATO‑mandate commissioner last week. His candidacy follows reports that Prime Minister Andrej Babiš pressured Defence Minister Jaromír Zúňa to dismiss Šedivý, although Zúňa says the departure was by mutual agreement and declines further comment. The role oversees the preparation of national defence and security policy, strategic planning for the armed forces, and representation of the ministry in NATO and EU forums.
