Czech defense companies invest $2.62 billion in U.S. industry

Czech defense companies have significantly expanded their presence in the United States, investing a total of $2.62 billion (approximately 55 billion CZK) into the American defense industrial base. According to Czech Defense Minister Jaromír Zůna, these companies now employ over 5,000 people across 12 U.S. states, including Oregon, Georgia, Iowa, and New York.

Key players in this expansion include the Czechoslovak Group (CSG) and Colt CZ Group. CSG has invested roughly $2.1 billion in the U.S., employing over 4,000 people. Its activities include the 2022 acquisition of the Italian ammunition manufacturer Fiocchi, which operates two U.S. plants, and the 2024 acquisition of The Kinetic Group. Additionally, CSG's subsidiary, MSM North America, recently secured a $635 million U.S. Army contract to design and build an artillery ammunition manufacturing complex in Iowa.

Colt CZ Group, which acquired the iconic American firearms manufacturer Colt in 2021, employs approximately 700 people in the U.S. and recently acquired Valley Steel Stamp. Furthermore, PBS Velká Bíteš operates a facility in Georgia focused on jet engines for drones and missiles, and has partnered with Pratt & Whitney to develop propulsion units for military aircraft.

Minister Zůna noted that this represents a shift in the Czech-U.S. relationship, moving from the Czech Republic being solely a security consumer to becoming a strategic industrial partner and investor in the American defense sector.
