Czech Drivers Face Fines and Insurance Gaps on Vacation in Croatia, Italy and Poland

Czech motorists traveling by car to popular Mediterranean destinations encounter increasing traffic‑enforcement measures. In Italy, limited‑traffic zones (ZTL) are monitored by cameras and can impose fines of €84‑335 for unauthorized entry. Croatia is expanding electronic toll collection and uses drones to catch speeding or red‑light violations, already issuing dozens of tickets.

A survey by IPSOS for Platforma VIZE 0 shows that 80 % of Czech travellers have travel insurance, but only 44 % add roadside assistance. Without it, vehicle breakdowns abroad become costly: average repatriation costs are about 46 000 CZK from Croatia, 48 000 CZK from Italy, 28 000 CZK from Poland, and up to 204 000 CZK from Norway. Annual assistance packages cost roughly 1‑2 thousand CZK and cover towing, vehicle repatriation and rental cars.
