Czech e-commerce shifts toward parcel lockers and pickup points

Self-service parcel lockers and pickup points are becoming the dominant delivery method for e-commerce in the Czech Republic. Data from the Zásilky-rychle service indicates that 82.5% of shipments are delivered to these locations, with the majority of packages weighing under 2 kg.

Research shows that 56% of Czech consumers prefer self-service boxes, a figure three times higher than three years ago and double the European average. Major operators include Zásilkovna, which manages approximately 6,700 Z-Boxes, and Alza, which operates around 4,000 AlzaBoxes. PPL also maintains a significant presence with 2,600 proprietary boxes and a total of 6,100 delivery points through various partnerships.

The growth is driven by consumer demand for flexibility in choosing pickup times and locations. For smaller e-shops, integrated logistics solutions are reducing administrative burdens by allowing them to manage multiple carriers through a single interface. The trend extends beyond standard retail, with some businesses reporting that over 40% of their shipments are directed to these automated lockers.
