Czech e-commerce trends show rising delivery box use and expected price hikes
The Czech e-commerce landscape is undergoing significant shifts in consumer behavior and economic outlooks. According to the E-Commerce Trends Report, the popularity of self-service delivery boxes has tripled over the last three years. Currently, more than 50% of Czech online shoppers choose these lockers as their primary delivery method, a figure significantly higher than the European average of approximately 25%. Consumers cite flexibility, cost savings, and reliability as the main drivers for this preference.
Simultaneously, the sector faces economic challenges. A survey by the carrier GLS involving 318 e-shops indicates that 57% of online retailers expect price increases for goods and services next year. These anticipated hikes are driven by inflationary pressures, including energy, interest rates, and fuel costs. While about half of the surveyed shops expect revenue growth this year and next, smaller retailers are particularly vulnerable to rising procurement costs and fuel prices due to limited negotiating power compared to larger competitors.
To combat these challenges, larger e-commerce players are planning investments in technology, with 55% intending to invest in artificial intelligence and 44% focusing on IT infrastructure. Conversely, smaller shops face concerns regarding visibility due to the rise of AI-driven shopping and the competitive pressure from large global marketplaces and inexpensive goods from Asian platforms.
