Czech economy: Household savings rise amid increased spending

Czech households are balancing increased savings with rising consumption. According to data from the Czech National Bank, total savings rose by nearly five billion koruna in August, maintaining a level of approximately 4.2 trillion koruna since April.

While real household incomes grew by 3.1 percent year-on-year in the second quarter, per capita consumption also increased by 2.5 percent. The average monthly employment income reached 55,048 koruna, a 4.2 percent increase compared to the previous year. Consequently, the household savings rate saw a slight decline from 20.3 percent in the first quarter to 19.9 percent in the second quarter.

In the foreign exchange market, the Czech koruna has experienced volatility. After hitting recent lows against the euro and the US dollar due to a strengthening dollar and rising bond yields, the currency saw partial recoveries toward the end of the week.
