Mountain Service of the Czech Republic reports surge in summer rescues

The Mountain Service of the Czech Republic has reported a significant increase in rescue operations during the current summer season. From July 1 to August 17, rescuers handled approximately 1,400 incidents, representing an increase of about 300 cases compared to the same period last year.

Key factors contributing to this rise include a high number of accidents involving cyclists, particularly within specialized bike parks. Additionally, extreme summer heat has led to more frequent collapses among hikers. Rescuers noted that high temperatures can also indirectly cause physical injuries and head trauma by causing fatigue and loss of concentration in rocky terrain.

The organization’s role has also expanded through closer cooperation with medical emergency services. Since 2013, mountain rescuers have increasingly assisted with life-threatening medical emergencies in mountain and sub-mountain villages, such as cardiac arrests, strokes, and childbirths, providing rapid assistance before medical teams arrive.
