Czech emergency services report record summer activity

Emergency medical services in the Vysočina and Hradec Králové regions of the Czech Republic reported exceptionally high activity during the summer months of July and August.

In the Vysočina region, paramedics recorded 9,541 interventions, setting a new record for the organization and surpassing the previous high by 553 calls. Key statistics include 7,577 patients treated and 179 helicopter deployments. Responders dealt with 503 traffic accidents and 2,042 injuries, while medical issues such as fever and respiratory difficulties accounted for 6,152 cases. Notably, allergic reactions to insect bites more than doubled compared to last year, rising from 146 to 363 cases.

In the Hradec Králové region, the service handled nearly 12,000 cases, a 9% year-on-year increase. The emergency line received almost 16,000 calls. Similar to Vysočina, there was a sharp rise in insect-related allergic reactions, increasing from 84 cases last year to 229 this year. The region also saw an increase in injuries involving cyclists and e-bike users, with 200 recorded cases. Other notable incidents included six drownings and one unusual case involving a man injured by a puma.
