Czech energy sector expands battery storage and heavy-duty charging infrastructure
OKD is launching a major project to construct a large-capacity battery storage facility at the Dolu ČSM-Sever site. The investment, totaling nearly 200 million CZK, aims to provide power balance services and commercial flexibility. The facility will have an installed power of 20 MW and a capacity of approximately 60 MWh, with operations expected to begin in the second quarter of 2027. TESLA Energy CZ will serve as the technical solution provider.
Simultaneously, the Czech charging market is seeing significant investment through the formation of eHUBS, a joint venture between Tuffieh Funds, Leef Technologies, and C. S. Cargo. Supported by European Union transport subsidies, eHUBS plans to build large-scale charging hubs designed for heavy freight vehicles and buses. These hubs will utilize Megawatt Charging System (MCS) standards to align with European TEN-T corridors.
To manage the high power requirements of these hubs—up to 3.6 MW—the infrastructure will incorporate battery storage systems capable of providing 1.6 MW for three hours. The first wave of development includes five high-capacity hubs located at strategic highway exits, including Postřižín (D8), near Bravantice (D1), and Cerhovice (D5).
