Czech ePrescription lets travelers pick up medicines across EU

Czech patients can obtain an electronic prescription (e‑prescription) that is accepted in many EU member states, including Croatia, Poland, Spain, Greece, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Finland and Cyprus. The system allows travelers to request the e‑prescription from their Czech doctor, receive an identifier via SMS or email, and collect the medication at participating pharmacies abroad without needing a local doctor’s visit. While the medicines are sold at full price in the foreign pharmacy, travelers can claim reimbursement from their Czech health insurance after returning home.

The initiative, promoted by regional officials such as Jiří Běhounek (SOCDEM), aims to ensure seamless cross‑border access to health services and to keep patients’ medical data portable across borders.
