Czech families remodel country homes near Brno and in Český ráj

Kateřina Schallerová inherited a house built in 2007 near Brno and, after her father's death, decided to keep and adapt it for two generations. The family added a separate unit for the mother, preserved an open‑ceiling design that creates shifting light, and continues gradual renovations such as updating the kitchen, bathrooms and converting the garage.

Actor Josef Dvořák bought a ruined 1860 structure in the Český ráj region and spent decades restoring it into a luxury chalet. He replaced decayed timber, added a garden with ornamental plaster figures, a pool and a nearby forest pond, creating a private summer retreat for himself and his wife Jarmila.
