Czech family house projects preserve heritage and landscape

In Žatka, a historic family house was restored over eight years, turning a deteriorated structure into a mixed-use building that serves as accommodation, family space and a craft tavern. Architects Jan Hora and Barbora Hora emphasized respecting the building’s historic fabric while incorporating modern functions, and the project was delayed by limited funding, complex craftsmanship and Covid‑19 lockdowns.

Nearby in the village of Chodouně, a four‑person family commissioned architects Vít Svoboda and Pavel Nový to design a compact 120 m² home positioned on a slope above the Litavka valley. The design prioritises integration with the surrounding landscape, offering views of nearby castles and a seamless indoor‑outdoor connection. The house avoids excess space, focusing on a large shared living area that unites kitchen, dining and lounge functions.
