Czech Film Comedy Festival returns to Nové Město nad Metují
The 48th Czech Film Comedy Festival is scheduled to take place in Nové Město nad Metují from September 13 to 19, 2026. Tickets are currently on sale, and organizers will soon release the full accompanying program.
The festival will feature thirteen competing comedies and various non-competitive screenings. Attendees can expect to meet film personalities and participate in discussions with film delegations. Awards will be decided by both a professional jury and the audience, including the prestigious Zlatý Prim for best Czech film comedy and the unique Novoměstský hrnec smíchu, which is determined by measuring the intensity of laughter in the theater.
In related cinematic news, the new comedy “Proč bychom se nezabili” (Why Wouldn't We Kill Ourselves) is being highlighted. Directed by Tomáš Svoboda, the film is a modern take on the traditional Czech village comedy genre, set in the village of Rozumov. The plot follows the secret romance between the children of two feuding families, set against the backdrop of modern elements like the reality show “Svatba naslepo” (Blind Wedding). The cast includes experienced actors such as David Novotný, Vasil Fridrich, and Jiří Lábus.
