Czech film industry debates AI-generated actors

In the TV programme Na dosah, Czech documentary maker Helena Třeštíková, actor Jan Cina, producer Filip Bobiňski and stuntman Marek Svitek examined the growing use of artificial intelligence in filmmaking. They agreed AI can speed up production and lower costs, for example by cleaning audio, but warned it could soon generate fully synthetic performers. Legal regulation was urged, with current discussions taking place at the EU level, as contracts often fail to protect actors’ facial and vocal likenesses. An AI‑generated actress, Tilly Norwoodová, is slated for a feature debut, prompting concerns that such “synthetic” actors might compete with human talent. Despite the technical progress, participants stressed that audiences still crave authentic stories told by real people.
