Czech firms face 35% surge in cyber attacks in June as Slovak SMEs warned of growing threats

In June, cyber attacks on Czech companies rose sharply, increasing 35 % year‑on‑year to an average of 2,928 incidents per week, according to security firm Check Point. This places the Czech Republic second in Europe after Russia, whose firms saw 3,376 weekly attacks. The European average for the month was 1,612 incidents. The most targeted sector was education, with about 4,816 weekly attacks per organization, followed by public administration and telecommunications. Agriculture, construction and engineering recorded the largest year‑on‑year growth rates, while attacks on health care and the aerospace and defence industries fell.

A separate commentary on Slovak cybersecurity stresses that size no longer protects firms; small and medium‑size enterprises are increasingly exposed as attackers exploit vulnerable systems and AI tools that lower entry barriers. Experts such as Marek Zeman, CEO of the Competence and Certification Centre for Cybersecurity, and Gabriel Lachmann, executive director of Citadelo, call for better employee awareness, practical risk‑management measures and training to address the rising threat landscape.
