Czech food inspectors find moldy nuts and banned infant formula
The State Agricultural and Food Inspection (SZPI) in the Czech Republic has identified several hazardous food items during recent inspections. In Smržovka, inspectors at a local grocery store discovered walnuts and wheat flour contaminated with pests, traces of pest activity such as cobwebs, and visible mold. Some products were also found to be past their expiration dates and showing signs of spoilage.
Additionally, inspectors have detected banned batches of infant formula appearing in stores in Děčín, Jablonec nad Nisou, and Humpolec. These products, which were ordered to be withdrawn from the market in February, are suspected of containing the toxin cereulide, which can cause vomiting, diarrhea, and potentially organ failure. While some retailers claim to have removed the items, authorities noted that some prohibited batches were still being held in stores, and some distributors failed to fulfill their legal obligation to inform supervisory bodies of such occurrences.
