Czech food prices plunge as inflation eases in June

Overall inflation in the Czech Republic fell in June, with the consumer price index dropping 0.3% month‑on‑month. The decline was driven primarily by lower food prices, according to data from the Czech Statistical Office (ČSÚ).

Prices of key items fell sharply: eggs down 19.7%, fruit 3.7%, vegetables 2.0%, poultry 2.8%, low‑fat long‑life milk 11.4%, butter 9.4% and oils/fats 3.1%. Butter reached an average price of 35 CZK per kilogram, the lowest level since August 2021. Long‑life milk also hit a ten‑year low, while fresh milk remained relatively stable. Industry representative Jiří Kopáček of the Czech‑Moravian Dairy Union noted that packaging and marketing promotions have contributed to the price shifts.
