Czech Foreign Minister Petr Macinka Faces Calls for Resignation and Criminal Complaint

Czech Foreign Minister Petr Macinka has drawn intense criticism after labeling President Petr Pavel’s participation in the NATO summit as an "attempt at a constitutional coup." In a 360° interview on CNN Prima NEWS, MP Jan Bartošek (KDU‑ČSL) urged that Macinka be dismissed, saying his remarks threaten democratic fundamentals. Fellow parliamentarian Jindřich Rajchl (PRO) accused Macinka of acting on emotion and warned that the Constitutional Court’s interim order on the president’s summit attendance pushes the Czech Republic toward a presidential system.

Former President Miloš Zeman adviser and TOP 09 Senate candidate Zdeněk Šarapatka filed a criminal complaint against Macinka, alleging his statements constitute a punishable offence and likening them to extremist rhetoric. The complaint claims Macinka’s comments breach the law and demand legal accountability.
