Czech gardeners advised on perennial planting and chive harvesting techniques

Gardeners in the Czech Republic are encouraged to prioritize perennial plants such as lavender and echinacea, which after a single planting return year after year, require less re‑planting and use water more efficiently. Perennials form a stable garden framework, while annuals provide immediate seasonal colour but must be replanted each year, making them a higher‑cost, short‑term option.

For chives, the recommended harvesting method is to cut whole stems at ground level rather than only the tops. Regular cutting stimulates dense new growth, while removing most flower stalks prevents the plant from diverting energy into seed production. Consistent watering, occasional compost feeding, and dividing mature clumps every three to four years keep the herb vigorous throughout the growing season.
