Czech glassmaking exhibition debuts in Belgrade
The traveling exhibition ‘Crystal Valley – The Eighth Wonder of the World’ has made its international debut at the Czech Center in Belgrade, Serbia. Running from October 16 to December 13, 2026, the exhibition showcases the diverse glassmaking and jewelry artistry of the Liberec Region.
The collection, valued at approximately 1.25 million CZK, was introduced during the Creative Glass Dialogues 2026 forum as part of Glass Week Serbia. It highlights the region's unique concentration of craftsmanship, ranging from traditional hand-blown glass—which has been inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity since 2023—to modern industrial production and technological innovations.
Curated by art historian Petr Nový, the exhibition is organized into five thematic sections: Memory, Art, Craft, Industry, and Future. Due to space constraints in Belgrade, the display focuses on the latter three, with a significant emphasis on craftsmanship. Featured works include glass strawberries by Jiří Pačinka, a Prague Castle motif vase by Ladislav Ševčík, and various jewelry pieces and lighting designs from prominent regional companies.
