Czech Republic and Slovakia announce major 2027 social and public sector reforms

The Czech Republic and Slovakia are implementing significant fiscal and social reforms as part of their 2027 budget planning.

In the Czech Republic, a tripartite agreement between the government, unions, and employers has established a new salary structure for the public sector. Starting January 2027, the lowest salary tier will align with the minimum wage of 24,900 CZK. The reform aims to simplify the pay system by reducing the number of salary steps from 12 to eight, with increases occurring every five years based on experience. Additionally, a new labor law amendment will grant employees the right to request information regarding the average wages of colleagues in similar roles to increase pay transparency.

In Slovakia, the 2027 budget focuses on strengthening social benefits. Key measures include increasing the baby bonus (stroller allowance) from 830 EUR to 1,000 EUR and raising the minimum child support amount from 40 EUR to 135 EUR monthly. For seniors, the 13th pension in December 2026 is set at 667.30 EUR for most recipients. The government also plans to adjust pension calculations for approximately 440,000 seniors to address historical inequities.
